SAMPLING + MIDI / TONKRO 1.0 GUIDE / 13 SEPTEMBER 2026

Invite the outside world in.

Capture sound, connect a controller, and keep the signal path friendly.

Spoolhas been briefed on this bit.

Capture a sample

  1. Select the sampler and choose microphone, USB, or internal resampling as the source.
  2. Allow microphone access when recording external audio. Keep speaker monitoring low, or use headphones.
  3. Use the hold-record / key-capture controls to capture a short sound. A held key assigns its root note.
  4. Audition the result, trim the boundaries, and adjust tuning, loop, or reverse as needed.
  5. Save the project and export a bundle to include the captured audio in your backup.

Bring your own sounds responsibly

Import files you created or have permission to use. Buying a sample pack does not necessarily let you redistribute its raw files. A complete project bundle can include source samples, so check their licenses before sharing one.

Paid library rows in this preview are not completed in-app purchases. Do not treat a preview listing as proof that a pack is owned or available to download.

Connect MIDI

Connect your controller and choose the appropriate input in Tonkro. A powered hub may be needed for multiple USB devices. Start with one controller and a simple sound, then test notes, note release, and the four macro controls.

Built-in mappings exist for MiniLab MkII and MPD218, with a generic four-CC fallback. MPD pads can drive drums while keys drive the selected melodic engine. This describes implemented mappings, not a guarantee for every hub, firmware version, or connection route.

For clock sync, decide which device is the master. Avoid sending clock back into its own source. Check start, stop, and timing with a short phrase before a longer recording.

Keep motion comfortable

Enable Reduce Motion in iPad Settings → Accessibility → Motion for restrained visual movement. The sound controls still matter. If a control is difficult to read, reach, or use with assistive technology, send its page name and a description to support.

Stuck? Tell the repair bench what happened. Include the page and control name so we can follow your footsteps.
