PLAY + SHAPE / TONKRO 1.0 GUIDE / 13 SEPTEMBER 2026

Give a sound some character.

Keys, monsters, macros, and the curves that make a note feel alive.

Coilhas been briefed on this bit.

Hands run the show

Play the keys for melodic sounds or the pads in Drum Garden. The four colored controls change with the focused page and instrument. Scene objects are musical controls, not just decoration: watch the corresponding knob while you drag.

In Constellation, the disk controls Orbit, the pipe and valve control Glow, the computer controls Bodies, and the speaker controls Spread. Press the speaker cone to audition a note; release to stop. Use Help → Inspect next control when you want to know exactly what a machine does.

Envelope: the shape of a note

Attack sets how long a sound takes to rise. Decay sets the descent toward Sustain. Sustain is the held level, not a duration. Release sets the fade after the note ends. Edit the curve’s handles or the matching controls; both shape the sound.

Poly plays chords. Mono keeps one note at a time. Legato changes how overlapping notes connect. Unison layers voices. Glide controls the slide between pitches. Try short Attack and Release first, then stretch them while playing.

Drum Synth uses its own Dynamics controls: Attack Level, Mid Level, Release Level, and Region. Those reshape a drum’s transient and duration; they are not the same as a melodic ADSR envelope.

Effect and Motion

Effect changes the character of the instrument before it reaches the track recorder. Toggle its power to compare with the dry sound without losing your settings.

Motion modulates a destination such as pitch or tone. Start with a small amount, choose the target, and compare with Motion bypassed. A moving monster shows musical activity, not a calibrated audio-level meter.

Save the happy accident

Use Save current patch to keep the sound you have shaped. Export current patch makes a portable patch file. A patch is not a complete song: use a project bundle when you also need your arrangement and recorded media.

Stuck? Tell the repair bench what happened. Include the page and control name so we can follow your footsteps.
